Crying Out

AN ANTHEM FOR SOULS LOST BEHIND THE SCREEN.

So many faces. Who knows my name?

Behind all this light, a soul going under.

This is the moment it cries out.

And someone answers.

The story behind the song

Crying Out is about a whole generation living inside the glow of a screen. We are more connected than any people in history, and many of us have never been lonelier.

The song starts behind the glass. A soul that was once clear lies in shards on the floor. A face gets cropped and filtered until it no longer feels like your own. Every word could set off a landmine, so you type, delete, and learn the rules of the game. The feed becomes a cell full of faces with nothing to say, and the person inside it slowly dissolves into pixels.

It is written above all for the young: teenagers and young adults raised on the feed, performing a self they never chose and wondering whether anyone would still come near if it were gone.

But the song refuses to leave anyone there. It turns at a simple risk: one honest word let through, one guard let down, two people sitting with the pieces and showing their scars. The cry becomes plural. We're crying out.

Then the ending: the phone lies face down. A leaf catches the light. Wind moves in the branches. Eyes meet. So much was missed, and so much is still alive.

It is built as an epic metal and classical rock anthem because it needs to be loud enough to reach someone who is going under. It is meant as a lifeline: breathe again, cry out, and you may find you are not alone.

Words by Greg Schlueter

INTRO

Can you hear me?Do you see me?Do you know me?Could you love me... anyway?

VERSE 1

My soul once, clear glassNow shards on the floorI piece back a faceI don't know anymore Crop out the cracksKeep the hurt out of frameBlood in the tearsBehind “I'm okay”

PRE-CHORUS

So many facesWho knows my name?Who would come closerIf nothing remained?

CHORUS

I'm crying out…Can you hear me somehow?Could you know what I hideAnd still want me around? Behind all this lightI'm nowhere to be foundI'm going down, down, down—Can you reach me now?

VERSE 2

Landmines in every wordI could sayI type. I deleteI learn how to play Laugh when they laughKeep the wrong thoughts insideBecome what they wantFind a new place to hide

PRE-CHORUS

Everyone playsEveryone staysCells full of facesWith nothing to say Flash after flash—I reach. It's goneMy chest running emptyThe current runs on

CHORUS

I'm crying out!Can you hear me somehow?Could you know what I hideAnd still want me around? Behind all this lightI'm nowhere to be foundI'm going down, down, down—Can you reach me now?

BRIDGE

What if your wallsWere as thick as mine? What if your smileHid the same fault line? I let one word throughYou let down your guardWe sit with the piecesYou show me your scars

FINAL CHORUS

We're crying out!I can hear you nowYou can say what you hideI'm not turning around With the cracks in the glassWith the walls coming down—There's more of us hereThan the screen ever foundWe're crying out!

OUTRO

The phone lies face downA leaf catches lightWind in the branchesYour eyes meeting mine So much I've missedSo much still aliveThe blue of the skyThe color of your eyes
